BUTTERCUP WALK

Sunday 25th June 2006 @ RNOH

The day had arrived and we set off early to get a good parking space and viewing spot for the walk. We even had time to have breakfast in the restaurant. This is not something I've done before as I've normally been in the hospital wards instead! A new experience for me....

Mum and Auntie Rita went to register for the Walk and got their map route and a booklet about the Buttercup Walk. It was to be opened by Luke Hamill, an actor who has been in the Bill, Casualty and Holby City as well. He used to live near us and was injured in a car accident and had lots of treatment at RNOH so was pleased to open the 2006 Buttercup Walk.

I went to the 'Stands and Stalls' and we had to ask John to move the car up to the main area as I had major problems. I now realise how slow this achilles tendonitis has made me.

I had made some laminated posters and John had bought poles with him and we made them up with cable ties and then got Mum and Auntie Rita to stand with them. They were amazed as they hadn't known anything about it. We were the only ones to have made banners in support of walkers but maybe we've started a new trend and there will be others next year. I even made them ones to go round their necks with 'Karen's Mum' and 'Karen's Aunt' on them. Mr B said he would be coming to the Walk and I knew he'd recognise Mum straight away!!

Isn't there always one kid who gets his head right in the middle of the shot?!

We're off....

Now they're coming back and waving to us.....

On the way back now...

Auntie Rita knows we're there....Mum is somewhere else...as usual...!

Auntie Rita paying attention, Mum is in another world....

WE DID IT...!!!!

WE DID IT!!!!!

All in all it was a fun day and we enjoyed it. Mum and Auntie Rita walked more than 1km each as they had to walk to the Registration Tent first and then walking around generally. They are very fit - more than both John and I put together!!!

So now the important bit, if you sponsored them, please send your money in ASAP so that they can get it off to the Hospital.

I wonder what else we can ask them to do...any ideas? Email me!
