False Negative
This means that a test has shown that a disease is not present when in fact
it is.
False Positive
This means a test has shown that a disease is present when it is not.
Fatigue
A decreased capacity of activity that is often accompanied by feelings of
weariness, sleepiness or irritability. A lack of energy, general tiredness.
Fertility
The ability to have children. Several treatments for lymphoma affect fertility.
Fine Needle Aspiration
The use of a fine needle under local anaesthetic to take a sample of cells
from a suspicious lump to determine whether it is benign or malignant.
First Line Therapy
The first type of therapy selected to combat illnesses.
Fluoro-Deoxy-Glucose (FDG)
Also commonly referred to as FDG; compound used widely in PET imaging and
which behaves in a similar (analogous) way to Glucose and therefore reflects
metabolism in the body. Cancer cells have an increased metabolism and therefore
show increased uptake of FDG, reflected in PET images.
